ILGAS

The narrative of work series "Ilgas" are created using both documentary and staged photography approaches. Aim of series is to investigate human approaches to self-representation and organizing they living environment in isolated community.
Ilgas palace (1890) is located close to Latvia and Belorussia border (around 3 km from Belorussia). Nowadays Ilgas palace belongs to Daugavpils University (Latvia), and its used like study praxis place for nature research in natural settings for environmental and teacher study program students.
Series of works are created during the students (45 female students) learning visit at the Ilgas palace in June of 2010. Work series "Ilgas" not a traditional portrait or architecture photography. The palace seems abandoned/rundown building but in reality its a real place where students live and learn for a short period of time (2 weeks). The aim of photographing is to show surrealistic conditions of life there, created by historical and social aspects of that place. I would like to stress that these photographs are more related to peculiar still life photography then any other photography genre.
